Dosage:
Tea - Prepare an infusion by adding crushed seed or resin (1-2 g) to 1 cup of water. Taken up to three times daily.
Cautions and side effects:
As it contains caffeine, guarana may cause symptoms such as anxiety, frequent urination, hyperactivity, insomnia, palpitations, and trembling.
Guarana should not be taken by pregnant or nursing women. Long term guarana use may have side effects such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, or fertility decrease.
Based on anecdotal evidence, with excessive intake of energy drinks, either by itself or combined with caffeine and/or taurine, guarana may contribute to the beginning of seizures in some individuals.
